Leadership
We believe students personal and social development is enhanced through taking on leadership roles. Opportunities exist via: formal leadership roles for Year 12 and 13 students; through peer support; through the student Hauora Committee; through representation on the Student Council; and by way of a range of extra-curricular activities.
Sports
Students at Makoura College are encouraged to play sport for the school. Students are able to play for outside teams when a suitable college team is not available. All traditional sports codes are offered as well as specialist sports such as:

Makoura College has an active Kapa Haka Group which has competed in the National Competitions. College teams also participate in Matharapa, Speech Competitions, Music Assessment Concerts, Chess, Wairarapa Wearable Arts, Rock Quest, the Duke of Edinburgh Award and Stage Challenge.
Guidance Counsellor and Deans
Makoura College has a full time Guidance Counsellor. The Guidance Counsellor is available to help students and their Whanau with a wide range of issues, both in and out of school. The Deans make up the rest of the Guidance team.
Health Clinic
A Health Clinic is available for students two days per week in the College grounds. The Health Clinic gives free, confidential access to a registered nurse and a general practitioner.
